Hyundai’s Epic Playdate Weekend Sweepstakes

Share

For many parts of the country spring break is here, and with that comes thoughts of sun, sand, and squeezing a whole lot of fun into your time with the kids. Now, given that I’m a ridiculously busy, full-time working mom, my idea of a perfect playdate spent with my kids would be a lazy day at home, baking cookies, licking the spoon, and not worrying about the dishes for a change. If we could get through the entire day without any whining or tears, it would be truly epic! If your idea of an “epic” playdate involves a little more adventure though, you should definitely enter to win a trip to Hyundai’s Epic Playdate Weekend!

The Epic Playdate Weekend is on April 27th from 9am to 5pm in Santa Barbara, California. Bloggers Girls Gone Child, BoingBoing, How To Be A Dad, and others will be camping out on the beach and hosting loads of kid-friendly activities, from an ice cream sundae bar to a paint fight, a kids’ photography class to a hula hooping workshop, and more! Sound fun? Click here to find out how to enter to win a trip for four to this exclusive, invite-only event!

You must have a Pinterest account to enter (If you don’t have an account it’s super easy to get one – and Pinterest can be extremely addictive – you’ve been warned!) and when the entry form asks “How did you hear about us?” be sure to tell Hyundai you heard about the sweepstakes from Clever Girls Collective (the folks who passed on this great info for me to relay to all of you!).

Good luck to everyone, and if one of you is lucky enough to win a trip to the event be sure to let me know – I’ll have to live vicariously through you while I’m at home baking cookies and dreaming about the beach.  :o)

I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls Collective, and the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.

Girls Crochet Headbands {Review & Giveaway}

Share

Apologies for the badly Instagrammed picture – having camera issues. :(

I was recently sent a few things from Girls Crochet Headbands to try out. Sophie’s been actually letting me do her hair lately, so it’s been fun trying to find different ways to pretty her up. :o) We were sent a few different bows and headbands, but my absolutely favorite is the Aztec Flower Hair Clip, which is gorgeous! The quality of all of the bows, flowers, and headbands we tried is awesome, and here are some other things we love about the Girls Crochet Headbands online store:

Selection – Seriously, they have hair accessories for any outfit you’re trying to match. We kept things pretty safe with our choices (I wanted things she could wear to school; she has a uniform), but you could easily fill your daughter’s closet with a complete rainbow of hair accessories from GCH.

Interchangability – I absolutely love that everything is interchangeable. Even the hard headbands, like the U-shaped ivory one we tried out, have little loops on them so that you can attach a bow or flower clip to jazz up your gal’s hair.

Price – This was huge for me. I see bows on Etsy all the time that are pushing ten bucks – each – per bow. At Girls Crochet Headbands the most expensive bow is under $3, so you can afford to buy one for every outfit!

And to make those prices even better, Girls Crochet Headbands is offering my readers 20% off using the code burbs20 (which is case-sensitive, fyi). AND one of you will win a $30 gift certificate to their online store to spend however you want! Here’s how to enter:

Head over to the Girls Crochet Headbands site and take a look around. Then come back here and leave me a comment letting me know what your favorite GCH item is.

For extra entries, you can do the following – be sure to leave a separate comment for each:

Like GCH on Facebook
Follow GCH on Twitter
Follow GCH on Pinteret

Language Stars Open House Weeks and Giveaway

Share

Do your young kids know a second language? Research shows that kids pick up on foreign languages much more quickly in their early years than they do later in life, yet so few American children are bilingual – partly because many preschools and elementary schools simply don’t have the resources to offer foreign language classes. Luckily for parents in the Chicago area, there’s Language Stars!

Language Stars offers a variety of programs such as Parents & Tots, Kids Only classes, summer camps and more! There are 14 centers throughout the Chicago area – visit the Language Stars site for a full list of locations. Here’s some quick info about Language Stars:

A foreign language puts the world in your child’s backyard, bringing other cultures to life. Introducing Language Stars: play-based, full-immersion foreign language classes that open children’s minds to new worlds. Toddlers, pre-schoolers and K-5th graders benefit from an early start, during a unique window of opportunity when their young brains absorb the magic of another language and culture easily and rapidly.

From January 14th- 27th Language Stars will be hosting Open House Weeks so you can experience Language Stars firsthand. You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Tour your local Language Stars center
  • Meet our international teaching team
  • Learn about the Window of Opportunity and why NOW is the best time for your child to learn a foreign language
  • Receive a special Open House gift to take home for you and your child

As an added bonus, enroll during the Open House Weeks and you’ll receive $100 off tuition (new families only). If you’re already enrolled, you can receive $100 off your tuition for every family you refer who enrolls through January 27, 2013. You can reserve your spot for Open House Weeks by filling out the form at http://www.languagestars.com/openhouse2013 or by calling 866-55-STARS.

Read for the Record 2012

Share

Entries on this giveaway are closed, but you can still pledge to read!

Once again, Bright Horizons is the Chicago-area sponsor for Read for the Record, and I’m very excited to be a part of the campaign again this year too! If you haven’t participated in Read for the Record before, here’s what it’s all about:

Jumpstart’s Read for the Record®, presented in partnership with the Pearson Foundation, is one day of the year when millions of individuals come together to celebrate literacy in an effort to jumpstart a child’s future.  On October 4, 2012, adults and children across the country will be encouraged to read Ladybug Girl and the Bug Squad by David Soman and Jacky Davis, in support of Jumpstart’s mission: to work toward the day every child in America enters school prepared to succeed. Learn more at jstart.org/readfortherecord.

We’ve actually never read any of the Ladybug Girl books before, but I can tell it’s going to be a story Sophie will love.  :o) This is a cause that’s near and dear to my heart, especially this year – Sophie is in kindergarten now and I see her literacy skills growing daily; I wish every child could be as fortunate as mine. And that’s what this program is all about, making sure that ALL kids enter school with the skills they need to succeed.

If you’re interested in participating in Read for the Record, you can pledge to read here. If you don’t have a copy of the book, head to the bookstore, library, or read it online. Or enter to win a copy here - I’m giving away two copies of Ladybug Girl and the Bug Squad!

Entering is easy – just leave a comment letting me know your favorite book to read to the kiddos. For a second entry, go pledge to read, then come back and leave a comment to let me know you did.

Two ways to enter, and the giveaway will close on Friday, September 28. Good luck, and thanks for reading!
