What’s up this weekend? {February 24}

Okay, what gives with the weather?  I want the warm stuff back!  Sorry for not having a Week Ahead post for you guys this Monday – you know how sometimes hours just slip away from you?  That was me these past few days!  I suspect the three day work week had something to do with it, so I’m not complaining a bit!  :o)

This is kind of a pathetically light weekend for events around town, so it might be a good time to check out one of the places in the Indoor PlayBook, or take a look at the Spots We Love page for all of our reviews if you’re looking for something different!

So, looking to this weekend…   Kids ages 8-12 can get in on the Whole Foods fun with Kids in the Kitchen, tomorrow morning at 10:30.  Registration is required; call (847) 585-5800.  $5 per child.

All Target stores are hosting a free Dr. Seuss Storytime this weekend!  Visit on Saturday from 9-11AM to hear a reading of The Lorax – there will also be goody bags and fun activities for the kids!

The Friends of the Library are hosting their used book sale at the Elk Grove library this weekend.  I plan to go check it out to look for some new-to-us children’s books – we check a lot out from the library, but the kids have recently decided they like to sit in their closets and read, so I’m all for having as many books around the house as we can!

That’s it for the new and exciting stuff this weekend – check out the calendar for more details, and as always, I hope you have a wonderful weekend with your families!

Who’s looking forward to an extra-long weekend?  I know we’re all excited about sleeping in for three days straight around here!  (And by “sleeping in,” I mean staying in our beds past 7 – which is quite a feat at our house!)

If you’re looking for fun ways to spend your next few days, look no further!  Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Tomorrow morning Chick-fil-A is hosting their Family Funrise event!  Come in your pajamas for breakfast with the cow, a family photo booth, and a special behind-the-scenes tour for the kids!  You’ll need to RSVP online for this event – last I heard there were only a few spots left!

Whole Foods is offering their monthly Parent and Tot cooking class at 10 tomorrow morning.  These classes are always such a fun, low-key, and delicious way to spend some time on a Saturday!  Register by calling (847) 585-5800.

If you’re near the Schaumburg library tomorrow you’ll want to stop by for Stories in the Enchanted Forest from 11-11:20AM.  This all ages, drop-in storytime is a quick way to squeeze in some fun if you’re out running errands!

If none of those work for you, there are plenty of other events on the calendar, including library storytimes and a FireZone drop-in time.  As always, check with the locations before you go, as times and other details may have changed since events were added to the calendar here at Super Suburbs.

I hope you all have a wonderful, sunny weekend with your families!  :o)

I am so looking forward to a nice weekend at home!  I’m hosting a few girls for scrapbooking tonight, but other than that I’m looking at lots of time to catch up on some sorely neglected chores (in the, “I had to pull a pair of pants out of the dirty laundry for my son to wear today” sort of way – oops!).

If you, unlike me, are caught up on your laundry and will actually be able to leave the house this weekend, there are a few events you might like to check out!

Over at the Elk Grove Historical Museum tomorrow, you can create Vintage Valentines with scrap materials and a steel-tipped pen.  You’ll also be able to see examples of valentines dating from the early 1900’s and grab some sweets while you’re there.  No registration is required, and the event will be going on from 11am–2pm.  There is a small charge for this event – $1 for Historical Society members and $2 for non-members.

Once a month the Schaumburg library offers Sensational Saturday, a drop-in crafting event for ages 3-5.  The event for February is happening tomorrow, the 11th, from 11-11:30AM – children must be accompanied by an adult helper.  Great for us working moms who usually miss out on the library events!

Did you know that Sunday is President Lincoln’s birthday?  (Don’t worry, neither did I!)  Why not celebrate his 203rd at a real log cabin?  The Merkle Cabin at Spring Valley will be hosting Lincoln, Logs, and Lore this Sunday, February 12th, from 12-4.  You’ll have the opportunity to play with giant Lincoln logs while learning more about the life of Lincoln.  Free event.

If none of those float your boat, check the calendar for other events – I know there’s a FireZone drop-in time this weekend!  And don’t forget to check the Indoor PlayBook if you’re looking for a toasty place to get out some energy!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend ahead!  If you know of any events that are not listed on the calendar or if you have an event happening in Elk Grove, Schaumburg, or Itasca in the future that you’d like to see listed, shoot me an email at betsie@supersuburbs.com so I can get it on.  :o)

And if you haven’t liked Super Suburbs on Facebook yet – would you, please?  I know you guys are out there reading, so I’d love to get to connect with you over there too!

Can you believe the weather we’ve had lately?  My kids were outside riding their bikes a few days ago - hard to believe it’s only February!

What do you have going on this weekend?  Brandon and Sophie have a daddy/daughter dance tomorrow, so I’m looking forward to an evening snuggled up with my little guy.  All four of us have the day off on Monday, so we have a nice three day weekend here!  We don’t have any exciting Super Bowl plans, but I am looking forward to an excuse to eat copious amounts of chips and dip.

If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, check the calendar!  There you’ll find kid’s workshops at both the Schaumburg and Elk Grove Home Depot locations, FireZone drop-in times on both days, and more!

I hope you all enjoy a beautiful weekend with your families!  Next week is going to be pretty busy around here, so stay tuned!

I find it incredibly hard to believe that it’s already the last weekend in January, but here we are!  What are you up to this weekend?

We’re going to head to the FireZone tomorrow – it’s rare that they have a drop-in time when Brandon and I are both off of work, so we’re going to take advantage of it!  I’ll be back with a full report for you next week – it’s a place we’ve been wanting to try out for a long time!  Sunday we’ll be headed to our school’s open house.  I can’t wait to see what the kids have been hard at work on for the last few weeks!

While it’s a pretty light weekend as far as events, be sure to check the calendar if you’re looking for something fun to do!  Disney on Ice presents Dare to Dream is at the Allstate Arena through this weekend, so don’t forget there’s a coupon code (and our review of the show) here if you’re thinking about going to that.  Also, if you’re considering private school for the 2012-2013 school year, this weekend is full of open houses and registration events – get the details here.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend ahead!
